Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) has laid the foundation stone for its second manufacturing plant in India, located at IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana.
The ceremony was attended by senior leaders from Suzuki Motor Corporation, including Managing Director Kenichi Umeda, and officials from the Indian and Japanese governments. Developed by HSIIDC, this industrial township aligns with the Indian government's vision of enhancing industrial infrastructure, attracting global investment, and creating employment.
The new facility will be developed with an initial investment of approx. Rs 1,200 crore and is planned to have a production capacity of 7.5 lakh units annually in its first phase. Spread over 100 acres, the manufacturing unit will occupy 25 acres, while another 25 acres will be preserved for green space, underlining Suzuki’s commitment to sustainability. Operations at the plant are scheduled to begin in 2027 and are expected to generate employment for around 2,000 people, supporting local development and boosting SMIPL’s production capabilities in India.
The initiative marks a significant step in Suzuki’s long-term strategy to meet growing domestic demand while fostering community growth and environmental responsibility.
