THDC India has successfully commenced commercial operation of the second 660 MW unit of its 2x660 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh.
The event was virtually inaugurated by Union Minister Manohar Lal, with senior officials from the Uttar Pradesh government also attending. This milestone marks the full commissioning of the 1,320 MW plant, following the first unit's COD on 26 January, 2025, and the second on 22 September, 2025. The project was executed smoothly across 14 specialised packages. It features ultra-supercritical technology and advanced environmental safeguards, with a captive coal supply from Amelia Mine.
The plant is expected to generate 9,264 million units (MU) annually, enhancing power availability and reliability in the region. THDCIL, a subsidiary of NTPC, developed the project as part of India's broader push for efficient, high-capacity thermal energy infrastructure.
