The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has approved Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation’s (TNGEC) proposal to tender a 64.75 MW grid-connected solar and wind power project integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
The project will be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis across Karur, Tiruvarur (each 15 MW), and the remaining capacity distributed among Thoothukudi, Madurai, and Kanniyakumari districts. The developer selection will follow a tariff-based competitive bidding process. With a contract period of 25 years, this initiative aims to boost renewable energy generation and improve grid stability through advanced storage technology.
A senior official highlighted, “Karur collector M Thangavel granted ‘enter upon permission’ on August 18, 2022, for 53.72 acres of government poramboke land in K Pitchampatti village.” The project is expected to play a critical role during peak demand hours in the future, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s commitment to sustainable energy growth.
