In a major push to improve drinking water infrastructure, the Tamil Nadu government has approved the third phase of the Hogenakkal Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 8,428.5 crore.
The project aims to benefit 38.8 lakh people across Hosur, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri municipalities, along with 16 town panchayats and 20 panchayat unions covering 6,802 habitations. The scheme will source 242.5 million litres of water daily from the Cauvery River. This water will be treated and stored in a 157.2 lakh litre reservoir before distribution through an extensive network of 32 break pressure tanks, 324 master balancing reservoirs, 598 sumps, and 1,009 overhead tanks.
Funding includes Rs 2,283.4 crore from the Centre, Rs 1,761 crore from the state and industries, and Rs 4,384.1 crore through external aid.
