Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate 19 projects worth Rs 1816.69 crore related to Delhi’s water and sewerage infrastructure from the Keshopur sewage treatment plant (STP) today.
The projects, launched under the ‘Sewa Pakhwara’ initiative, include upgrades to existing STPs and the laying of new sewer lines. At Keshopur, two STPs are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 504.12 crore, expected to serve 25 lakh households in West Delhi. Eight major STPs, including those in Kondli, Rohini, Coronation Pillar, Narela, Yamuna Vihar, and Najafgarh, will be inaugurated. However, the Okhla STP, previously scheduled for launch and touted as Asia’s largest, has been postponed.
Additionally, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has cleared multiple decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) for areas unsuitable for traditional STPs, expected to benefit 11 lakh people. Three drinking water projects are also included, featuring underground reservoirs and booster pumping stations in Palla, Siraspur, and Bijwasan.
