Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL), the distribution arm of Tata Power, has entered into an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to boost Delhi's power distribution.
As per agreement terms, ADB will subscribe to non-convertible debentures worth Rs 150 crore (USD 18.2 million), wherein the funds will be utilized for grid enhancements. Additionally, TPDDL will receive a USD two million grant from ADB to partially finance the purchase and integration of a pilot battery energy storage system (BESS).
The proceeds from the secured financing will be utilized for the construction of a new 66/11-kV grid, expansion and enhancement of transformers, substations, feeder lines, and switching stations and similar purposes. Smart meters will be installed to replace outdated electrical equipment and meters, as part of the improvement plan.
BESS will further help to integrate renewable energy sources, which will make way for a more disaster-resilient power distribution system for Delhi.
Overall, ADB's investment will enable Tata Power to ensure a high-quality power supply for consumers.
