Tata Motors has homed down on West
Bengal to locate its cherished small car project. The company has targeted to
sell these cars at a price tag Rs.1 lakh.
Here are the broad details of the
project:
Project: Small passenger cars
to be priced at Rs.1 lakh
Cost: Rs.1,000 crore
Location: Singur, Hooghly district, West Bengal
Land: 1,000 acres (700 acres for main plant, 300 acres for vendors and
suppliers)
Land possession: By July/August 2006
Commissioning: end-2008
Direct employment: 2,000 persons
Tata Motors is in the midst of a
multifarious capacity expansion project, broadly involving:
- doubling of capacity of its mini
truck (Ace) to 60,000 units per year, at Pune
- greenfield unit for producing Ace

- greenfield unit for producing
trucks (location not identified)
