National Hydroelectric Power
Corporation's 510 MW Teesta hydro power project (Stage V) at Dikchu and Sirwani
near Singtam in East Sikkim, is scheduled for completion by December 2007.
Work has almost reached final stages,
where Toshiba's technicians are setting up three turbines at Dipudara powerhouse
site, and the tunnelling work is almost reaching completion. With a capacity of
170 MW each, the turbines will be dependent on water availability. The first
turbine is likely to begin by January 2008, with the other two to be
commissioned sequentially by February-March 2008.
