Sushil Kumar Shinde, the Union Minister for Power, has dedicated the 510 MW
(3x170 MW) Teesta V project of NHPC in Sikkim to the nation on 4 July 2009.
The project, already commissioned, had been performing well during the last
couple of months, contributing significantly to the national hydropower pool.
After being commissioned in 2008, the Rs 2,600 crore project had been
performing at as high as 114 per cent of its targeted generation level by May
2009. The power generated is planned to be utilised in West Bengal, Bihar,
Orissa and Jharkhand, after leaving the 12 per cent statutory free share of
Sikkim.
