Tokyo Electron, a leading Japanese semiconductor equipment maker, will set up offices in Dholera, Gujarat, and Assam to support Tata Electronics’ upcoming fab and assembly-test plants.
Takeshi Okubo, Executive Vice-President and General Manager, said, "The schedule to set up our office in Dholera is aligned with Tata's Dholera fab… We also expect more developed or mature infrastructure to help us accelerate our support system." The Dholera facility will host 200–300 engineers, training centres, and a warehouse for critical parts, while Assam will see a smaller office owing to the nature of its unit.
Before considering equipment manufacturing in India, the company will focus on R&D in AI, robotics, and software. The Executive VP further added, "We want to establish a base in India for the software for robotics, AI and other such applications."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Shigeru Ishiba recently toured Tokyo Electron’s factory, with Modi emphasizing India-Japan collaboration in semiconductors.
