Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 14 July, 2025 launched healthcare projects worth Rs 1,000 crore at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), emphasizing the need for Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare system to be future-ready.
He inaugurated a Rs 105-crore state-of-the-art cardiology wing, adding 92 ICCU beds and advanced diagnostic facilities, doubling Lari Cardiology's capacity from 84 to 176 beds. Additionally, UP’s first high-tech 340-bed orthopaedic super speciality centre was opened at KGMU. “The centre offers a wide range of specialised services including orthoplasty, spine surgery, sports medicine, paediatric orthopaedics, radiology and pathology,” said Prof Ashish Kumar. Developed at a cost of Rs 86 crore, the centre includes 24 HDU beds and 24 private rooms.
The CM also laid the foundation for a Rs 378-crore seven-storey general surgery building featuring robotic surgery, 12 modular OTs, a 12-bed ICU, and solar power systems. A Rs 48-crore new KGMU administrative block, diagnostic lab, patient accommodation block, and guest house expansion were also announced. Collaboration with IIT-Kanpur for medical tech innovation was also highlighted.
