According to information provided by the
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Major General (Retd.) B.C.
Khanduri given in the Lok Sabha on 23 April 2001, the National Highway No.52
between Tezpur and North Lakhimpur (both in Assam) is a two-lane road and is in
traffic-worthy condition. The section from North Lakhimpur to Jonai is a single
lane road and is being maintained in traffic-worthy condition except for a
stretch of 4 km, which is affected by river Jia Dhol.
The development of the National Highway
52 from Tezpur to Jonai is being carried out in phases based on availability of
funds.
The Government allocated a sum of
Rs.57.13 crore for maintenance and repairs of National Highways in the
North-East during 2000-2001.
