Varanasi is set to witness the development of its first planned urban township, spread across 150 acres near the upcoming international cricket stadium at Ganjari in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) approved the township project during its 133rd board meeting held on 09 June, 2025.
The meeting, chaired by Divisional Commissioner and VDA Chairman S Rajalingam, included Vice Chairman Pulkit Garg, District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar, and other board members. Authority Secretary Ved Prakash Mishra presented a compliance report on earlier decisions, progress updates for the 2024-25 financial year, and new proposals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the international cricket stadium on 23 September, 2023. The stadium is under construction on a 30.66-acre site at a cost of Rs 451 crore and will feature seating for 30,000 spectators. Completion is expected by the end of 2025, with the venue likely to debut with an international match in 2026.
Before the board meeting, a new record room with modern facilities and capacity for 80,000 files was inaugurated at a cost of Rs 36 lakh, increasing total storage to 2,55,266 files.
