The Board of Directors of Websol Energy System has approved a phased expansion of its manufacturing capacity, adding a total of four GW of solar cells and four GW of solar modules via a wholly-owned subsidiary.
This expansion entails an investment of approx. Rs 3,000 crore. The plan builds on Websols existing capacity (Phase I) at Falta, West Bengal, which includes a 600 MW solar cell line and a 550 MW solar module line operating at 90 percent effective capacity utilisation. Phase II, an additional 600 MW solar cell line co-located at Falta, is scheduled to start operations in October 2025, funded entirely through internal accruals, raising total solar cell capacity to 1.2 GW.
To meet rising domestic solar demand, the company will expand further using Topcon technology. Phase III will add two GW each of solar cells and modules by June 2027, followed by Phase IV adding another two GW each by June 2028. Investments for these phases will combine internal accruals and institutional lending.
