Work has commenced on the 33-km railway line that is expected to connect
Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) with Harmuti (Assam).
According to sources, from Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway, the bhoomi poojan
at a proposed bridge site on Dikrong river at Doimukh was performed recently.
The project includes construction of 18 major brides and 20 minor bridges
with an estimated investment of Rs 156 crore.
The district administration of Papum Pare has been expediting the land
acquisition process and is likely to handover the land amounting to 10 km to NF
Railway by end-December 2009. The total length of Phase I railway line is about
11.45 km.
The proposed RCC bridge over river Dikrong will join Doimukh with Tigdo and
Yupia. The bridge is to be 270 mtrs long with seven pillars on the proposed
route. The railways plan to complete the construction of the pillars within by
March 2010.
