Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has commissioned its steel plant in Sohar, Oman.
The project, with two million tonne capacity, was set up at a cost of $800 million (approx Rs 4,840 crore). The greenfield project is part of the company's wholly owned subsidiary, Jindal Shaheed Iron & Steel.
The plant has an electric arc furnace with a capacity of 200 tonne, a ladle furnace of the same capacity, and a continuous casting machine to produce billets and blooms in square and round sections.
The steel melting shop in the plant, using state-of-the-art technology from Danielli Italy, was commissioned within 23 months from the date of commencement of work at the project site.
With the commissioning of this plant, JSPL is gearing up to meet a substantial part of the shortfall in the North African and Gulf regions.
The company is also planning to develop a comprehensive steel manufacturing facility in the Sultanate of Oman.
