financial institutions, while the remaining Rs.1,300 crore would come as

NTPC has planned to commission capacity of 710 MW
during 2005-06, which is the lowest capacity addition in recent years.
During financial year 2004-05, NTPC undertook
capital expenditure of Rs.5,297 crore as compared with Rs.4,580 crore in
2003-04. The company added 2,000 MW of fresh capacity during 2004-05, taking its
total capacity to 23,749 MW, or around one-fifth of India's total power
capacity.
Power generation stood at 159.11 billion kwh in
2004-05 - the highest ever - as against 149.17 billion kwh in 2003-04. In
2004-05, NTPC accounted for 27 per cent of India's total power generation.
As of April 2005, NTPC was in the midst of

aggregating 4,460 MW were awarded.
During the first three years of the X Plan
period, NTPC added 3,500 MW of new capacity. It has set a target of adding 9,160
MW of new capacity during the X Plan period, which NTPC is confident of
attaining. While 710 MW is being added in 2005-06, it would be installing 4,950
MW of capacity during 2006-07, the terminal year of the ongoing X Plan period.
For the XI Plan, NTPC's capacity addition target
is 17,333 MW that would take its total capacity to over 46,500 MW by March 2012.
