Salem Steel Plant, part of Steel Authority of
India, is in the midst of preparing a plan that would address its primary
problem of sourcing of steel slabs for rolling.
Since SSP does not have its own steel melting
facility, it has to depend on slabs from outside sources that could include the
four integrated steel plants of SAIL.
SSP has estimated that a steel making facility
would cost Rs.500 crore. The steel ministry would take up this proposal once SSP
finalizes its plan.
