The financial bids for the second container
terminal at Chennai Port is likely to be opened in the third week of January
2006.
The company is awaiting for a final clearance to
be given to Hutchison Port Holdings, one of the bidders for the terminal, by the
Centre.
The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs.491.76
crore, with Chennai Port Trust contributing around Rs.100 crore and the
remaining amount to be brought in by the build-own-and-transfer (BOT) operator.
Three consortium bidders, bidding for the
terminal, which will be an alternative to the existing private container
terminal operated by Chennai Container Terminal Ltd of P&O Ports, UK are
- Port of Singapore Authority/ Sical,
- Emirates Trading Agency/ Gammon India and
- Hutchison/ Larsen & Toubro
