The Vedanta Resources (Sterlite) has
proposed to diversify into wind power generation. The diversification will be
implemented through group company, Hindustan Zinc Ltd.
The group has proposed to set up wind
farms with overall capacity in the range of 250-500 MW at several locatiosn in
India. The company has invited expressions of interest from experienced

In a related development, Vedanta
Resources has sought SEZ status for its under-construction 5 lakh tpa aluminium
smelter in Orissa. The Central government is examining the proposal, it is
learnt. The aluminum smelter project together with a 1,215 MW captive power
plant entails an investment of Rs.7,000 crore. Vedanta Alumina, a newly-formed
group company, is implementing the project along with an independent 1.4 million
tpa alumina refinery at Lanjigarh.
