The Central government gave its
approval for the Rs.23,000 crore infrastructure projects to be undertaken by the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal
Mission (JNURM).
To undertake these infrastructure
projects, the first installments of grants which is 25 per cent of the total
grants given by the central government will be released by July 2006, it is
learnt.
The state government has already
submitted six infrastructure projects for Mumbai to the central government under
the JNURM. These include:
- Storm water drainage scheme
- Middle Vaitarna dam
- Mithi River cleaning and
beautification
- Mumbai sewerage treatment project
