Sterlite Industries, a Vedanta
Resources Group
company, plans to set up a manufacturing plant on an area of 1,468 acres of land
at the Integrated Industrial Estate (IIE) in Hardwar district of Uttaranchal.
The project will entail an investment
of Rs.1,000 crore. The company is likely to manufacture power transmission
cables and sheeting covers.

The IIE at Hardwar is an initiative of
State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttaranchal (SIDCUL). For the IIE, Gherzi Eastern Ltd has been appointed as supervisory and consultancy agency for completing
work on roads, drainage and water supply. For maintaining power load
requirements, estimated at 120 MW, the Uttaranchal government is setting up a separate
220 kV substation with two independent feeders, which will be completed by
January 2007. In addition to this, six small 33/11 kV sub-stations will also be
installed. A central effluent treatment plant is also being set up.
The government will also provide
facilities like office buildings, shopping mall, plaza, recreation facilities,
hotels and restaurants, banks and ATM counters, transport plaza and
IT/Telecom centres.
The Hardwar IIE will
have 822 plots in which 29 companies, including
Hindustan Lever and Mahindra
& Mahindra, have started production. Another 173 have started construction while
a total of
277 companies have been given possession of industrial plots.
