Ion Exchange India has
bagged a project worth Rs.126.3 crore to set up a seawater desalination plant
for NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company in North Chennai for the 3x500 MW thermal
power plant at Vallur near Chennai.
The scope of work
includes setting up a 3x275 m3/h seawater desalination plant using reverse
osmosis technology at Vallur to the north of Chennai. The plant will treat the
processed sea water further to give demineralised water for use in the boiler
drum for steam generation. A small part of the reverse osmosis water will also
be used as drinking water. The work on the desalination plant is likely to start
in about a month's time.
NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy
is a JV between the National Thermal Power Corporation and the Tamil Nadu
Electricity Board to set up a 3x500 MW thermal power plant.
