Sterlite Technologies, the transmission solutions provider, has bagged an
order worth Rs 372 crore from BSNL for enabling fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network
based on gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology. The contract is
expected to be completed in the current fiscal.
BSNL plans to implement similar FTTH networks at 25 cities across India by
year 2012. The current phase of the FTTH network will be capable of providing
high-speed internet, IPTV solutions, Voice over Internet Protocol, and other
value added services to about 500,000 subscribers.
