The Karnataka government has approved a Rs 393 crore project to upgrade 12 arterial roads within Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) limits from asphalt to concrete.
The Public Works Department (PWD), under the state urban development department, will execute the project following public demand for durable roads. Frequent digging for laying cables, water pipelines, and underground drainage had left city roads potholeridden, prompting the move toward white topping. The identified stretches, covering 46 km, include JLB Road, Hunsur Road, Bogadi Road, KRS Road, Irwin Road, Mahadevapura Road, Mysuru–Mananthavady Road, Vishwamanava Double Road, and the road linking Vani Vilas College to Mall of Mysuru via Mysuru Zoo.
Alongside road concretisation, upgrades will include footpaths, medians, underground drainage lines, and a 200-mtrs. buffer zone on either side for utility works. PWD executive engineer Padmanabha confirmed tenders will be finalised after Dasara festivities, with work commencing post-October 2. The project is expected to be completed within two months of contract award, ensuring Mysuru’s key roads remain intact for at least 20 years without further digging.
