Ahmedabad is set to get its first single, continuous road connecting the western and eastern ends of the SP Ring Road, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced. Bids for the project are expected to open soon.
The first phase will develop a 10 km stretch from Ognaj to the Dadhichi Bridge in Vadaj at a cost of Rs 100 crore, covering areas including Gota, Chandlodia, Nirnaynagar, Akhbarnagar, and Vadaj Circle. "In the first phase of the East-West Corridor project, we will develop the 10 km stretch from Ognaj to the Vadaj Dadhichi Bridge. This is estimated to cost Rs 100 crore. The design has been finalised, and the file has been submitted to the commissioner for approval to float the tender," an AMC official said.
The road will feature uniform junction designs, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and removal of bottlenecks to ensure smooth traffic flow. The remaining 10 km from Vadaj to SP Ring Road in Odhav will be executed in five phases, with the total project cost estimated at Rs 450 crore. A 25 km north-south corridor costing Rs 250 crore is also under discussion.
