The reconstruction and widening of the Pettah–Anayara–Oruvathilkotta model road in Thiruvananthapuram is nearing completion, promising relief to thousands of commuters and residents long affected by traffic congestion.
The Kerala Road Fund Board confirmed that the project is on track for completion by December 2025, marking a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development. The second stretch—from Venpalavattom to Oruvathilkotta temple, entered the tarring phase after completing utility works including a utility duct, city gas line, and water pipelines, paving the way for BM and BC standard tarring. “This is not just another road but a model project that will open the gateway to our city’s future,” said MLA Kadakampally Surendran, who recently inspected the site.
Funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board at Rs 143.6 crore, nearly Rs 98 crore went into land acquisition from 614 owners. The 2.4 km first stretch and 1.2 km second stretch include footpaths, reconstructed pavements, and 13 bus shelters to improve public transport. Utility shifting costs total Rs 12.7 crore.
