Alphabet Inc has initiated talks to shift a portion of its Google Pixel smartphone production from Vietnam to India, aiming to reduce risks related to potential US tariffs.
The tech giant is in talks with Indian contract manufacturers Dixon Technologies and Foxconn to relocate assembly lines focused on the US market. The discussions began two weeks ago.
.Alphabet is also pushing for local production of key components such as chargers, fingerprint sensors, enclosures, and batteries, which are currently imported. This aligns with India's goals to expand domestic electronics manufacturing and boost exports, supporting a shared goal with the US of achieving USD 500 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
Foxconn and Dixon already produce 43,000 to 45,000 Pixel units monthly in India, though these are limited to the domestic market. The proposed expansion could significantly increase India's role in Alphabet’s global supply chain.
