Alstom, a leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has been awarded a Euro 144-million contract to supply traction components and maintenance services for 17 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, consisting of 408 cars, for Indian Railways.
The contract includes providing Mitrac traction systems and electrical components, manufactured at Alstom’s Indian facilities, and supporting maintenance services for a five-year period post-warranty. These components will be installed in 24-car sleeper trains designed for speeds of up to 180 km/h. Alstom’s facilities in Savli, Coimbatore, and Maneja will play a key role, with the Maneja site executing the contract.
The first prototype delivery is expected by August 2026, followed by serial production in 2027, with maintenance services to begin in 2029. The Maneja site, operational since 1996, is equipped to handle multiple local and export projects, contributing significantly to the execution of this project.
