Andhra Pradesh has announced a plan to solarise 2.93 lakh agricultural pump sets by March 2026, aiming to transform its energy sector and promote renewable energy adoption.
The initiative, revealed by Chief Secretary and Energy Secretary K Vijayanand during the 4th Collectors’ Conference, involves installing approx. 1,163 MW of solar capacity. Tenders have been floated for this large-scale solarisation effort, with the state also allocating land to ensure timely project execution.
Additionally, tenders for 1,198 MW of rooftop solar plants targeting six lakh SC and ST consumers have been issued. Pilot projects in Tirupati and Chittoor have shown success. Andhra Pradesh is also advancing smart metering, feeder segregation, and loss-reduction under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). Power demand is rising, with Tirupati becoming the top power-consuming district. The state has implemented major electricity subsidies, including free power for farmers and various small-scale industries, supporting both economic and energy goals amid a growing peak load.
