Bengaluru’s Metro Phase 3, popularly known as the Orange Line, is now expected to be completed by May 2031, a year later than originally planned.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has revised the design to include double-decker flyovers at specific stretches, aimed at reducing future traffic congestion. However, this change has pushed deadlines and raised costs, with officials estimating a five percent increase in the overall Rs 15,611 crore budget.
Launched in August 2025, Phase 3 spans 44.65 km with 31 elevated stations across two corridors—JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km) and Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km). Construction tenders are expected in November 2025, with work beginning in late 2025 or early 2026, divided into eight packages over five and a half years. The Orange Line will provide critical connectivity, linking to Green, Purple, Blue, Red, and Pink Lines, further integrating the city’s metro network.
