Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line received its first trainset from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems on 06 January, 2025. This marks a key milestone for the 18-km stretch which connects the Electronic City technology hub with the rest of Bengaluru. The train is expected to reach the Hebbagodi depot by road within 15 days.
This delivery is part of a larger contract with Titagarh, which plans to deliver two additional trainsets by April 2025. Production will then accelerate to a rate of two trains per month, with a target to maintain this pace through September 2025. Despite these plans, the first train arrives after several delays.
Managing Director of BMRCL, Maheshwar Rao M remarked, “One trainset is ready, with two more expected by January 2025. Subsequent deliveries will arrive in batches of two.”
Titagarh established a dedicated production line to meet BMRCL’s requirements, despite initial setbacks. Manohar Lal, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, underscored the transformative impact of metro projects on urban development and the economy.
The Yellow Line project completion will facilitate better access to the Electronic City, a major technology and business hub, contributing to the city's economic growth and infrastructure modernisation.
