Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah performed the 'Bhoomi Poojan' for India’s first Cooperative University, “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University, on 05 July, 2025 in Anand, Gujarat. The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening the cooperative sector in India.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Ministers of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Muralidhar Mohol, and Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani were also present at the ceremony. Shah highlighted that “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University will cater to the growing need for trained manpower across the rapidly expanding network of district dairies and cooperative institutions in the country.
The university will focus on cooperative policy-making, data analysis, and formulating five-year, 10-year, and 25-year strategic development plans for the sector. The university will play a pivotal role in fostering leadership, innovation, and efficiency within the cooperative ecosystem. It aligns with the government's long-term vision of self-sufficient rural and semi-urban development driven by cooperatives.
Amit Shah reiterated that this university would act as a think tank and academic hub for cooperative growth, aiming to professionalise and modernise the sector at both state and national levels.
