The Bhopal Metro achieved a major milestone on 04 March, 2025 with its first trial run extending beyond Habibganj, covering the route from Rani Kamlapati Railway Station to AIIMS Bhopal.
Conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL), the test utilised the newly constructed railway over bridge (RoB), a crucial link between AIIMS Bhopal and Habibganj. A three-coach metro train moved at a controlled speed of 10 to 20 km per hour, passing through DRM Office and Alkapuri stations. The trial, marked a significant step in expanding metro connectivity in the city.
Previously, trial runs were confined to the Habibganj section in 2023. With the completion of the RoB, direct connectivity between Rani Kamlapati station and AIIMS Bhopal is now possible. Future trials will gradually increase the train’s speed to its designed maximum of 90 km per hour. Each coach of the metro measures approx.22 mtrs. in length and 2.9 mtrs. in width.
