The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will set up a CSIR Innovation Complex at Baruipur in West Bengal, by 2014.
The proposed complex will come up on a 23 acre campus close to Kolkata at a cost of Rs 100 crore. Currently, land-filling is underway and the process to engage an architect is underway. An innovation complex will capitalise on scientific activities in the region by partnering with industries to commercialise innovations in labs in eastern region. Similar complexes are set to come up in Mumbai and Chennai by 2014.
Also, a center is under development at a five-acre plot in Salt Lake city (in Kolkata) to supplement the activities of the proposed Baruipur complex. The Salt Lake centre will be operational soon.
