The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs 6,957 crore project to widen and improve the 85.675 km Kalibor–Numaligarh section of National Highway 715 in Assam.
The projectt, to be executed under the EPC mode, aims to enhance regional connectivity, economic growth, and tourism. A major highlight is the construction of a 34.45 km elevated corridor to ensure safe wildlife movement between Kaziranga National Park and the Karbi-Anglong Hills. Additionally, the plan includes the upgrading of 30.22 km of the existing two-lane road, alongside greenfield bypasses of 11.5 km at Jakhalabandha and 9.5 km at Bokakhat.
The upgraded highway will strengthen links between Guwahati, Kaziranga, and Numaligarh while connecting to NH-127, NH-129, and SH-35. It will also improve access to three airports, three railway stations, fishing clusters, tribal districts, and key tourist and religious destinations.
