Coal India (CIL) has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Konkan Railway Corporation to develop rail infrastructure for CIL and its subsidiaries.
The agreement, executed on 18 August, 2025, in Kolkata, aims to strengthen coal transportation networks. CIL, responsible for over 80 percent of India’s domestic coal output, has been ramping up rail infrastructure to ensure efficient evacuation of coal. Earlier, it had also tied up with Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation for similar projects. In FY25, CIL produced 781.1 million tonne (MT) of coal, about seven percent short of its 838 MT target.
For FY26, the company has set a production goal of 875 MT with an offtake target of 900 MT.
