Delhi Metro Rail
Corporation (DMRC) is likely to complete the work of connecting 10 out of the 11
venues of the Commonwealth Games before the start the games in October 2010.
DMRC has almost completed 25 per cent to 57 per cent work on all the Metro lines
passing near the venues and they will be opened by September 2010.
DMRC has put the
construction work on the phase II on the fast track in order to provide
connectivity. The venues which will get connected with the completion of this
phase include Games Village, Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium and Delhi University
apart from the Thyagaraj Complex and Siri Fort Sports Complex among others. Of
the total, five - Vishwavidyalaya-Jahangirpuri, Indraprastha- New Ashok Nagar,
New Ashok Nagar-NOIDA, Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar ISBT and Inderlok-Mundkaare are
scheduled to be opened in 2009.
Three venues, which
will have direct access to metro stations include JLN Stadium, the venue for
opening and closing ceremonies, the Games Village and Delhi University.
