The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, to jointly conduct advanced research in Metro rail systems. The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed at Metro Bhawan in New Delhi, was facilitated through Monash’s Institute of Railway Technology (IRT) and attended by senior officials from both organisations.
The MoU outlines collaboration in key areas including automation of rolling stock, advanced track maintenance techniques, and technology exchange. It also paves the way for academic and research exchange programmes between Monash University and the DMRC Academy, which will function as the knowledge and training hub for the joint initiatives. DMRC will identify relevant metro rail research projects to be undertaken with IRT under separate contractual agreements.
The collaboration will also focus on capacity building and technical cooperation, particularly for metro engineers. “This MoU marks a significant leap in DMRC’s global partnerships, especially with one of the world’s most respected institutions in railway technology,” DMRC stated. The collaboration aims to improve operational efficiency, safety, and passenger experience while enhancing innovation, reliability, and sustainability in Metro systems.
