The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has staretd work on 10 decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) to improve sewage treatment in the city and clean the Yamuna River.
Unlike traditional plants, DSTPs will be installed in areas lacking sewage infrastructure, such as along drains. The focus is on high-priority areas like Najafgarh, Tikri Kalan, and surrounding villages including Jaunti and Rindhala. These DSTPs will add 30 million gallons per day to Delhi’s sewage treatment capacity. In addition, the Delhi government is fast-tracking efforts to bridge a 400 million gallon per day gap in sewage treatment, with other ongoing projects to upgrade the existing infrastructure.
The initiatives will benefit around 35 lakh people in areas such as Najafgarh, Chattarpur, and Narela. These developments are part of a broader effort by DJB to meet the city’s growing sewage treatment needs
