The Seethathodu-Nilackal Drinking Water Project has been commissioned, ensuring a steady supply of water for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season.
The Rs 84.38 crore project, aimed at providing round-the-clock access to safe drinking water, was inaugurated on 27 October, 2025 by Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine at a ceremony held by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The project includes a 13-million-litre-capacity water treatment plant, booster pump houses, and overhead storage tanks to cater to both pilgrims and local residents. Water will be sourced from a well near the Seethathodu fire station and carried via a 22.5-km pipeline to Nilackal.
Funded by NABARD and the Jal Jeevan Mission, this initiative addresses the long-standing issue of water scarcity during the Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival season. It is expected to offer a sustainable, uninterrupted water supply, reducing dependence on tanker lorries that have been used in previous years.
