The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has approved the construction of five new foot overbridges (FOBs) to improve pedestrian safety in high-footfall areas and ease traffic congestion across the National Capital.
The new FOBs will be constructed at SPM Marg near Old Delhi Railway Station, Uttam Nagar East Terminal, Hanuman Mandir on Ring Road, TPM Church at Mehrauli-Mahipalpur, and near Kendriya Vidyalaya JNU at Vedant Deshika Marg. Tenders for construction have already been issued.
A senior PWD official highlighted the importance of FOBs in making Delhi’s roads safer. The city’s residential colonies, markets, and Metro connectivity often lead to heavy foot traffic, particularly in west Delhi. Delhi currently maintains around 115 FOBs, but many lack lifts, as noted in a 2018 report.
