The Karnataka government has announced a transformative Rs 1.2 lakh crore infrastructure overhaul to address Bengaluru's traffic congestion and dilapidated roads.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled the plan after launching a Rs 58.44 crore white-topping project in Chickpet. The overhaul includes long-delayed projects like Metro line extensions, a new Outer Ring Road, tunnel roads, and double-decker roads. Addressing the city's pothole crisis, the CM emphasised that white topping will ensure roads last 30 years.
Deputy CM D K Shivakumar revealed plans for a detailed report on white-topping 500 km of roads at Rs 4,000 crore. Additionally, Rs 1,800 crore is allocated for 83 roads, while black-topping for 182 roads is ongoing at Rs 695 crore. A 117 km Bengaluru Business Corridor and 113 km of elevated corridors are also part of the plan. The government will integrate 28 lakh properties into the e-khata system.
