Delhi is set to build India’s first E-Waste Eco Park at Holambi Kalan through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The facility, spread over 11.4 acres, will be developed under a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model for a concession period of 15 years.
A global tender will be issued by Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) to attract “the world’s best green technology partners to build this benchmark project,” said Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The eco park will have the capacity to process up to 51,000 tonne of e-waste annually, covering all 106 categories under the E-Waste Management Rules 2022. It will feature recycling zones, dismantling and refurbishing units, a second-hand electronics market, plastic recovery facilities, and skilling centres for upskilling informal sector workers.
The project is expected to generate over Rs 350 crore in revenue and more than a thousand green jobs. India generates over 1.6 million tonne of e-waste annually, with Delhi contributing 9.5 percent. The park is expected to handle 25 percent of the city's e-waste within five years. “The era of irresponsible dumping is over,” said Sirsa.
