West
Bengal’s first wind power project has been planned in with an investment of
Rs.8 crore. The one MW project would be implemented by West Bengal Renewable
Development Agency with financial support from the Union Ministry of Non-conventional
Energy. The proposed project would come up at Frasergunj, a coastal location in
the South 24 Parganas district. With a further investment of Rs.6 crore, the capacity
of the power project was expected to be doubled, which would result in the generating
2.5 million kwh of saleable energy, which would be transmitted to the grid
through the West Bengal State Electricity Board.
Once
the viability of the project was established, the state government planned to
invite the private sector to take over the project and run.
