The board of Gail (India) will soon approve the company's investments in Kerala aggregating Rs.9,750 crore in four
projects, expected to be launched in 2006.
Petrochemical complex: The detailed feasibility report of the company's
gas-based petrochemical project involving an investment of Rs.7,000 crore is ready and it would obtain the approval of the board in two months. This project
would come up at Ambalamugal in the land to be purchased from Fertilisers & Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT) for which negotiations are on.
Sub-sea pipeline: Gail has entered into a Head of Agreement
with NTPC for supply of regassified LNG from Petronet LNG's Kochi terminal to
NTPC's Kayamkulam plant, capacity of which would be raised to 2,300 MW from 350 MW.
For this, a 90-km sub-sea pipeline costing Rs.450 crore would be laid from Kochi to Kayamkulam.
LNG pipeline network: The third project is the laying of gas pipelines
from Kochi to Kannur, Coimbatore and Bangalore to transport LNG from Petronet
LNG's Kochi
terminal. The 900-km pipeline network would cost Rs.2,000 crore.
CNG/PNG: Gail has planned to enter into a joint venture
partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Kerala State Industrial
Development Corporation to supply compressed natural gas for vehicles and piped
natural gas for households. Gail's investment in this project would come to Rs.300
crore.
