Gas
Authority of India (GAIL) and the Tripura state government signed an agreement
on the supply of natural gas for the Agartala city gas project.
According
to the agreement, GAIL would lay a 5-6 km long pipeline for transportation of
natural gas from ONGC’s gas field at Agartala, and set up a gas station near
the town. This station would help the Tripura Natural Gas Co (TNGCL) to lay a distribution
network from the station to the households.
GAIL’s
pipeline would cost around Rs.3 crore and would supply around 67,000 mmscmd
(million metric standard cubic metres per day) of natural gas.
GAIL
has so far invested around Rs.41 crore in Tripura and has plans of investing a
further Rs.100 crore over the next two years.
