Gujarat Gas (GGL) has signed a gas sales agreement with Waaree Energy for supplying 50,000 standard cubic meters per day (scmd) of piped natural gas (PNG) to Waaree’s upcoming Lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Valsad, Gujarat.
The plant, currently under construction, is expected to be commissioned in Q4/FY26. This collaboration aims to promote sustainable energy use, reduce carbon emissions, and support India’s shift towards cleaner energy solutions. Presently, India relies heavily on imports for Lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries are vital for electric vehicles, portable electronics, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), which help stabilize grids and integrate renewable energy. Waaree Energies, India’s largest solar PV module manufacturer with a 13.3 GW capacity, is expanding into Lithium-ion cells, hydrogen cells, and solar wafer production.
GGL, India’s largest City Gas Distribution company, operates across 44 districts in six states and one union territory, serving over 22.67 lakh households, 4,000+ industries, and running 828+ CNG stations.
