The Rajasthan government is set to formulate a five-year action plan aimed at enhancing infrastructure and expanding facilities to promote the use of domestic piped natural gas (DPNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG).
Principal Secretary (Mines and Petroleum) T Ravikanth announced on 22 July, 2025, that, in line with the state budget's goals, the government has targeted providing DPNG connections to 1.25 lakh households and establishing 89 new CNG stations within the current year. While framing the five-year roadmap, the state will also align its targets with those set by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
T Ravikanth emphasised the importance of coordinating with national goals for broader energy transition. During a meeting with representatives from 13 city gas distribution (CGD) service providers, he called for strict compliance with safety standards, particularly in the vehicles used to transport CNG and PNG.
The state government has already implemented a CGD policy aimed at promoting green energy and building a sustainable gas-based ecosystem. The planned action plan is expected to accelerate the shift towards cleaner fuel options and reduce the dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
