Gas Authority of India (GAIL) plans to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Adani Group’s Dhamra terminal in Odisha through its Nagpur–Jharsuguda pipeline.
The Mumbai–Nagpur section, aligned with the Samruddhi Expressway, will soon be charged, with Butibori receiving the first supplies within a month. Work towards Jharsuguda is expected to conclude in 2–3 months. The facility will allow Gail to source gas from both east and west coasts, leveraging Dahej and Dabhol terminals in the west and Adani’s Dhamra in the east. This two-way pumping prevents pressure drops, ensuring steady industrial and commercial supply.
Dhamra LNG Terminal, operated by Adani-Total’s subsidiary, has a capacity of five MTPA (expandable to 6.5 MTPA) and currently operates at 2.3 MTPA. Adani has invested Rs 10,000 crore in the terminal and plans similar expansions in the port. Dhamra port is projected to handle 50 million tonne of cargo this year, including LNG, coal, and iron ore fines.
